There's a certain type of person who's proud to be "Espanyol" (Spanish).
I'd understand if it were about being Swiss, Monegasque, Luxembourger, from the Vatican City, Belgian, Dutch, or even Irish, French, German, or English. But Spanish? Proud of what? Of being one of the most coup-plotting Western European countries, of the shameful fascist civil war? It's also one of the most pro-civil war countries in Western Europe.

These characteristics have led us to be among the lowest-ranked states in Western Europe in terms of annual GDP per capita, education, and intelligence, and to have one of the largest gaps between the richest and poorest in the region. We are also among the most uncivilized. Today's scene is a recurring one, a testament to the incivility of the person who left all this junk on the sidewalk, next to the bins, instead of taking it to the municipal recycling center. At every traffic light, when it turns red for vehicles, for the first few seconds, cars proceed, and young public servants don't yield the next light to elderly or disabled people, or those with children in their arms. And they're proud of all this? We wouldn't see any of this in any of the other European nations mentioned.
When Spaniards (Balearic Islanders, Mallorcans) learn to distinguish between propaganda and true good, between fixism/capitalism and humanism, and choose what is good and humanism, the race to overcome all these years of shame, falsehood (and in our case, hebephrenic behavior), and injustice against wealth and privilege will begin. Then we can approach the geographical, historical, natural, economic, intellectual, and social quality of the European countries that preceded us, and then we can be proud to be Spanish, Balearic Islanders, or Mallorcans. Until then, there are only the deceived, the narrow-minded, or the wicked.
