Lights of Palma. Mallorca Day, 2025

When Abu Yahya realized he was lost, he requested a meeting with Nuno Sanç, great-uncle of James I. He offered to surrender and pay a substantial sum of money if he were allowed to sail to Africa. The proposal was rejected because the relatives of the Moncada family, who had died at the Battle of Portopí, sought revenge.
Final Battle: Abu Yahya then urged his men to defend the city. The besiegers had managed to breach the walls in several places. James I ordered them to prepare for the final assault. At dawn, after attending Mass and receiving Communion, they began the attack. The fighting was fierce. The defenders were forced to give way; many fled to the mountains, others hid in their homes. Thousands died. King James succeeded in capturing the Almudaina Palace.
It was the last day of 1229.
Nothing more was heard of Abu Yahya.
Thus ends Muslim Mallorca and begins Catalan Mallorca.
