Mallorca, after 5 consecutive seasons in the First Division, is relegated to the Second Division.

Indeed, Mallorca, in a season riddled with errors (1 the main one, the early change of manager. De Michelis took over the team three points above the relegation zone and left them in the relegation zone. 2 The draw at Elche. The team was losing 2-1 and, with time up, had a penalty kick; Mallorca wouldn't have been relegated if they hadn't been. 3 Losing the last few matches against Alavés, Elche, Getafe, and Levante).

And so, on the final matchday, May 23rd, they arrived in a relegation position and with every possibility of going down, except for one: they would stay up and remain in the first division if four conditions were met:

1 Mallorca had to win at Oviedo, a team that had already been relegated several matchdays earlier.

2 Levante had to get a point (a draw or a win) at Betis.

3 and 4 Elche and Osasuna had to lose their matches against Girona and Getafe, respectively. respectively.

Well, of these four essential conditions for avoiding relegation, only two were met, while the other two were not.

Mallorca beat Oviedo (3-0), and Osasuna lost to Getafe at home (1-0).

But Levante didn't get any points away at Betis; instead, they lost to Betis 2-1. And Elche didn't lose; they drew away at Girona. This meant that, in addition to Mallorca being relegated, Girona was also relegated, becoming the third team to go down, along with Mallorca and Oviedo.
